Samalona Island







SAMALONA Island is one of 11 islands in Makassar. This island is very popular as a snorkeling and diving place. Coral reef scattered around the islands and established as an underwater park. It is very beautiful with a variety of colorful fish.

Location of Object
Samalona Islands located in the Mariso District, Makassar, Province of South Sulawesi. The distance is about 6.8 kilometers from the coastal area of Makassar City.

Overview
Samalona is clean and beautiful island. Not too far from the mainland city made the island a favorite place for holiday. Waters around the island is also ideal place for snorkel and dive lovers.

This island composed of fractional coral and variety of vegetation. It has white sand that spread wide and clean. Meanwhile, the water is clear up to 20 meters out. Sunrise and sunset is also stunning scenery.

There are two dive locations surrounding the islands, in the east and north of the island. The depth in the two locations is about 30 meters. It has healthy coral reefs where colorful fish are dancing. There are also turtles and ray fish.

Near Samalona, about 30 meters depth, there is a sink bomber ship, Lancaster Bomber, which has been turned into a dwelling coral and become ornamental fish habitat. Samalona waters area had been location of battle in World War II.

Access
The island can be reached with rent boat from POPSA Dock. Trip to the island only takes about 20-30 minutes.

Rates
Rates are based by agreement among tourist and boat owner. However, averages rate are Rp 250.000 go and home.
